BedInABox is known for its direct-to-consumer mattress model. In 2006, the company was founded by Bill Bradley who created a machine that could compress a mattress into a box that could be shipped straight to the customer. Since then, BedInABox has grown, and it now has showrooms across the country to display its bedding accessories and multiple mattress models. One such mattress is the BedInABox Tranquillium.

Fast Facts:

  • Three foam layers

  • Firm feel

  • Mattress-in-a-box

  • 120-night sleep trial

  • 20-year limited warranty

  • Made in the U.S.

BedInABox has a lineup of six mattresses. This includes five all-foam mattresses and one hybrid mattress. The Tranquillium is one of BedInABox’s all-foam mattresses. With a height of 12 inches, this model is built with three layers of foam – including a gel foam layer – all of which are CertiPUR-US certified. The Tranquillium mattress costs $1,499 in a queen size, roughly $560 below the average cost of a foam mattress, based on more than 230 foam mattresses we analyzed. BedInABox offers a 120-night sleep trial and 20-year limited warranty for all of its mattresses, including the Tranquillium. Customers receive free shipping with the purchase of a Tranquillium, as well as free return shipping if needed.

Firmness

The Tranquillium mattress has a firm feel, according to BedInABox, though the company does not provide a rating on the 1-to-10 firmness scale. The Tranquillium is the firmest option the company offers. A firmer mattress is beneficial for stomach sleepers and sleepers with a heavier build. The extra support prevents unwanted sinking into the mattress and helps with spine alignment.

Height

The Tranquillium mattress has a height of 12 inches. This is the tallest all-foam mattress offered by BedInABox. The first 3 inches is BedInABox’s CoolRest gel memory foam. Next, there are 2 inches of transition foam, which BedInABox calls Pluralux. The bottom layer of the mattress is 7 inches of dense foam for support.

Motion Transfer

Since the Tranquillium is an all-foam mattress with three layers of memory foam, motion transfer is minimal compared to other types of mattresses. Motion isolation is beneficial for couples, as it reduces movement across the mattress when one person is tossing and turning or getting in and out of bed.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to how sturdy the perimeter of a mattress is. This is important for co-sleepers, heavier people, and people who often sit on the edge of the bed. Foam mattresses tend to have weaker edge support than other mattress types, like spring mattresses. However, the Tranquillium has a firm feel, which means it may offer better edge support than softer foam mattresses. The thickness of the high-density base layer – which measures 7 inches – can also contribute to a supportive feel, including around the edges.

Temperature

Foam mattresses tend to trap heat and can be uncomfortable for hot sleepers. Despite the Tranquillium mattress being all foam, it tries to address that issue by including a 3-inch layer of CoolRest gel memory foam on top and a Tencel knit cover to wick away moisture.

Pressure Relief

The Tranquillium mattress is made of memory foam, which is known for pressure relief. BedInABox describes the mattress as firm, but also says it was designed to conform to your body for even support. The first two layers of foam provide cushioning above the high-density base layer. Sleepers with back pain and athletes can especially benefit from pressure-relieving features.

How Much Does the BedInABox Tranquillium Cost?

A queen-size Tranquillium costs $1,499. This is similar in price to the average cost of a mattress in our Best Mattresses of 2023 rating. However, it’s priced higher than any of the mattresses in our Best Memory Foam Mattresses of 2023 rating. Mattress prices change frequently, and BedInABox offers discounts and bundles that help to lower the overall cost.

What Is the BedInABox Tranquillium Made Of?

Tranquillium by BedInABox is made of 12 inches of CertiPUR-US certified foam that doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals. The mattress is composed of three layers surrounded by a breathable knit Tencel cover. The top is a 3-inch comfort layer made with gel memory foam designed to increase airflow and keep you cool. The middle layer of foam is 2 inches thick and transitions to the bottom 7-inch layer of high-density support foam. Learn more about this mattress type in our memory foam mattress guide.
