DreamCloud makes three models, two of which place in our ratings. The original DreamCloud mattress ties for No. 13 in our rating of Best Mattresses of 2023 and No. 11 in Best Online Mattress of 2023. It also makes our ratings of the Best Mattresses for Heavy People, Best Cooling Mattresses, Best Lower-Priced Mattresses, and other categories.
Another model from DreamCloud, the DreamCloud Premier mattress ties with the original DreamCloud for No. 13 in Best Mattresses of 2023 and No. 11 in Best Online Mattress of 2023. It differentiates itself by placing No. 6 in Best Mattresses for Stomach Sleepers.
In addition to mattresses, DreamCloud sells bed frames, bedding, and pillows. The company is owned by Resident, the same company that makes the all-foam Nectar mattress.
The DreamCloud is best for:
-
Those who overheat at night
-
Heavy sleepers weighing more than 230 pounds
-
Shoppers looking for a value hybrid mattress
The DreamCloud is not recommended for:
-
Strict side sleepers weighing less than 130 pounds
-
Strict stomach sleepers
-
Those looking for a mattress that excels at motion isolation
The DreamCloud is an affordable luxury hybrid mattress. Thanks to an inch of gel memory foam, it offers pressure-relieving cushion for average-weight side and back sleepers, but it also delivers enough support for heavy sleepers. This balance of comfort and support makes it a great choice for couples of different sizes or who prefer different sleep positions.
Additionally, the mattress’ hybrid construction makes it easy for combination sleepers to change positions throughout the night. However, sensitive sleepers may be disturbed by their partner’s movements. The DreamCloud comes with a 365-night trial period and a lifetime warranty.
Firmness
How firm a mattress feels can depend on your size and preferred sleeping position. This seems to be the case with the DreamCloud Mattress. Professional reviewers agree it has a medium to medium-firm feel, but some say it is a little softer than the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness on a 10-point scale. Other reviewers feel it is slightly firmer than medium, rating it a 7 or 7.5.
Height
The DreamCloud Mattress measures 14 inches and features a quilted cashmere blend cover over three layers of foam, including an inch of gel memory foam. Under these foam layers, 8.5 inches of individually-wrapped coils provide support and promote air flow. The base consists of an inch of sturdy foam.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer refers to how likely you are to feel your partner move on the mattress. Because hybrid beds tend to be responsive, they usually do not handle motion transfer as well as an all-foam mattress would. Professional reviewers say this is the case with the DreamCloud Mattress. If you have a restless partner, you may want to consider a bed with less bounce.
Edge Support
The DreamCloud Mattress has decent edge support, meaning you shouldn’t feel like you’ll roll off the mattress if you sleep to its edge. However, some reviewers say the edge could be more supportive even for a hybrid mattress, and others noted the edge may not offer enough support for heavier bodies.
Temperature
This mattress makes our list for Best Cooling Mattresses of 2023 and is a good choice for hot sleepers thanks to its breathable cover and gel-infused memory foam that draws heat away from the body. Additional cooling comes from the DreamCloud’s 8.5-inch layer of individually-wrapped coils, which allow for enhanced airflow through the mattress.
Pressure Relief
Overall, the DreamCloud Mattress provides good pressure relief, which refers to how well a mattress disperses your body weight to alleviate and avoid pain. It is an especially good option for those suffering from back pain, but professional reviewers found it may be a little too firm to offer pressure relief for lightweight side sleepers.
A queen-size DreamCloud Mattress costs $1,199 at full price. This is much less than the average cost of over 100 hybrid mattresses we analyzed for this rating which is almost $1,900. Compared to the other mattresses that made our list of Best Hybrid Mattresses of 2023, the DreamCloud Mattress was the least expensive option, along with the Helix Midnight Mattress, which also cost $1,199. For reference, the most expensive mattress on that list, the Purple Hybrid Premier 3, cost $2,999.
What Is The DreamCloud Mattress Made Of?
The DreamCloud starts with a soft cashmere blend cover that is quilted with some foam for a pillow-top feel. Under that, a layer of soft foam provides pressure relief for back pain and other aches. The gel-infused memory foam offers additional cushioning and draws heat away from the body to help keep you cool at night. Beneath that, two inches of support foam act as a barrier between the softer foam layers and the individually-wrapped coils below. These coils provide firm support for heavier sleepers and make it responsive enough that combination sleepers can easily change position. On the bottom, a base layer of foam provides additional support.
The DreamCloud vs. Leesa Original
The DreamCloud and the Leesa Original are similarly priced mattresses, each costing $1,199 for a full-priced queen. But their construction is very different. While the DreamCloud is a 14-inch hybrid mattress with individually-wrapped coils, the Leesa Original is a 10-inch memory foam mattress. As such, the Leesa Original provides exceptional pressure relief, which might appeal to side sleepers. The Leesa mattress would also be the better fit for couples looking for motion isolation since its contouring memory foam absorbs your partner’s movement, allowing you to sleep undisturbed.
Memory foam tends to retain heat, so for hot sleepers, the DreamCloud comes out on top. In fact, it is one of our choices for Best Cooling Mattresses of 2023. Because coils don’t compress as much as memory foam, DreamCloud also delivers better edge support. Socially conscious shoppers might want to consider Leesa’s commitment to giving back. For every 10 mattresses sold, Leesa donates a mattress to charity.
The DreamCloud vs. Tuft & Needle Original
Unlike the DreamCloud Mattress, which is a hybrid mattress, the Tuft & Needle is an all-foam mattress. Instead of using traditional memory foam, the Tuft & Needle uses a proprietary adaptive foam designed to have a more responsive feel. As a result, you’ll feel more like you are sleeping “on” the mattress rather than “in” it like you would with a traditional memory foam mattress. You still get great motion isolation, making it a great choice for people who sleep with a partner – unless one or both of you sleeps to the edge of the bed, since the Tuft & Needle does not have great edge support.
Both mattresses work well with most sleep positions. However, if you weigh more than 230 pounds, the DreamCloud is a better option as heavy sleepers may not get the support they need from the Tuft & Needle Original. Budget shoppers can save a little by opting for the Tuft & Needle for $995, but the DreamCloud comes with a 365-night trial compared to Tuft & Needle’s 100-night trial.
