We're all trying to be more conscious when it comes to fashion, which is why we had to tell you about a timeless, mid-range British label that's fast-becoming a celebrity go-to. Let us introduce you to ME+EM.
The brainchild of former-advertising exec Clare Hornby, ME+EM isn't new but its ethos of eschewing fast-fashion to create affordable, luxurious wardrobe classics that last forever is disrupting the market. You know those pillars of your wardrobe that you're happy to invest in, such as a really flattering pair of jeans or a jumpsuit that makes you feel good every time you wear it? That's what we head to ME+EM for.
Clare explains on the ME+EM website that every piece the brand designs goes through a lengthy and rigorous process to ensure that it meets 'the 3 Fs': flattering ("a flattering silhouette is ageless"), functional ("we obsess over the role of a piece in your wardrobe and how it can work with all your essentials") and forever ("we thoroughly edit trends, only committing to the ones that have long-lasting appeal"). They also only work with specially vetted factories, and manage to keep costs down by cutting out excessive marketing campaigns and wholesaler costs.
"When I went into advertising I couldn’t afford designer clothes full price but didn’t like the quality of high street. I just knew there was a gap to be filled between high quality and price," Clare told Marie Claire.
Sounds good to us, and we're not the only ones. Celebrity fans of the label include the Duchess of Cambridge, who owns several of the label's Breton tops. Nicole Kidman, Zoe Ball, Naga Munchetty and Cat Deeley have also all worn ME+EM.
It's worth bearing in mind that these are forever pieces for your capsule wardrobe, so don't expect high street price tags. But, do factor in the cost per wear because buying once is better for your back pocket and the planet. With that in mind, we've rounded up the ME+EM buys you'll want to wear forever...
A luxe-velvet tea dress is perfect for taking you from day-to-night this party season. This fitted midi with ribbed cuffs looks great paired with everything from slingbacks to heeled loafers and ankle boots.
We love this flared skirt paired with black socks and statement gold platforms. But, the floral printed midi would also look great with knee high boots or trainers for a more relaxed everyday look.
A classic knit with a luxe touch, this merino wool and cashmere vest features decorative gem buttons and will become the hardest working item in your wardrobe this season.
The perfect jumpsuit to take you from desk-to-drinks. Wear with your favourite trainers during the day, and pair with platforms come night.
ME+EM's new 60s-inspired boots have shot straight to the top of our wish lists. Wear with midi dresses, midi skirts or culottes.
A chic blazer is a winter wardrobe staple, and we love ME+EM's luxe take made from butter-soft Italian leather.
With broderie ruffled trims and a flattering V-neckline, ME+EM's balloon sleeve layering top will instantly elevate your knitted vests.
The velvet mini dress of dreams, available in black and red - it looks great paired with statement pearl earrings and your best party shoes.
A classic jacket reimagined in ME+EM's red, this will be our go-to for elevating denim this season. Crafted from a soft bouclé blend, the flattering cropped silhouette is perfect for wearing with both dresses and separates. Layer with the matching red cashmere hoody.
Designed in the brand's London studio and crafted from 100% silk, this polka dot printed blouse with frill detailing looks just as great paired with jeans as it does with tailored trousers.
Another fiery red piece, this cosy co-ord consists of a merino cashmere ribbed skirt and matching cuffed jumper. This duo, which can be worn together or as separates, is an investment that will remain in your autumn/winter wardrobe for years to come.
The Town To Country Boots have got our name written all over them. Crafted from 100% Italian leather, we love the chunky sole with contrast stitching, and the easy pull-on design. We'll be wearing ours with everything from leather mini skirts to floral maxi dresses this season.
This knitted vest will come in very handy when the temperature drops. Made from a wool-cashmere mix, its sleeveless style compliments long-sleeve tops and adds warmth under coats and blazers. Also available in Navy.
Bootcut is back for the new-season and we're here for it. These vintage-inspired jeans are crafted in Italy from pure-cotton denim in a contemporary light-blue wash. A touch of fading adds to that lived-in look for an effortlessly cool style.
This sunshine yellow dress is a reminder of warmer days, featuring a subtle animal print with contrast black detailing. We love it paired with black socks and slip-on clogs, but it would also look great teamed with knee high boots, too.
A chic biker jacket is an investment piece, but we guarantee it's one you'll treasure in your wardrobe for years to come. Thanks to the reversible design, it offers two totally different jackets in one. Crafted in the UK, one side features a curly long-pile shearling, with suede-touch nappa on the other.
Long sleeve layering tops are a cold weather staple, even better when they feature playful pleated cuffs and sweet pearl detailing. Pair this pick under an oversized jumper for an elevated look.
