Latex Mattress Feel and Firmness
How firm is the Botanical Bliss mattress?
The PlushBeds Botanical Bliss bed comes in two different firmness levels: Medium and Medium-Firm. You’re also able to customize the firmness levels by rearranging the latex foam layers. A whopping 80% of people have picked their Medium model, so that’s the one we’ll mainly be discussing here.
The Botanical Bliss Mattress from PlushBeds is about as close as you can get to sleeping on nature without having to step foot outside. All of the materials inside the bed are ethically sourced from sustainable forests and plantations who are in accordance with standards set by several environmental compliance organizations.
The latex foam pieces are labeled and are layered in this order:
- Top: Soft
- Middle: Medium
- Bottom: Medium-Firm
If you want to make your Medium firmness mattress feel a little firmer, switch the Soft layer with the Medium layer, so the Medium slab of foam is at the top. The same process applies to the Medium-firm mattress. The 12” models of each bed will come with four layers which means even more firmness variations.
We have our own way of rating firmness levels here at the Slumber Yard, but we agreed with PlushBeds that the Medium model feels like a medium firmness, and the Medium-firm model feels like medium-firm.
What Does PlushBeds Feel Like?
Most people are familiar with memory foam mattresses, but latex foam is a total different ballgame. It’s a little bouncy and extremely responsive — especially when it comes to this bed because it’s stacked with latex foam layers. Botanical Bliss feels very supportive, but at the same time, feels nice and plush when you lay down. It’s almost like you’re weightless or floating — it’s pretty nice.
Botanical Bliss Bed Materials And Design
PlushBeds lets their customers pick the height and firmness of their mattress to accommodate a wider range of sleepers. With that being said, the exact construction of your mattress will vary depending on the bed’s thickness and firmness level. You have the choice between a 9”, 10”, or 12” bed at a Medium or Medium-Firm level.
- Organic Dunlop Latex — The Botanical Bliss Mattress contains three or four layers (depending on the mattress thickness you choose) of organic Dunlop latex foam from Arpico. Natural latex is antimicrobial, meaning it’s resistant to mold, mildew, dust mites, and other annoying household allergens. The latex is GOLS certified and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, ensuring the foam is high quality and 100% non-toxic.
- Organic Cotton — The cover is made with organic cotton, which was grown in the USA without the use of pesticides or herbicides. It’s breathable, soft-to-the-touch, and GOTS certified.
- Organic New Zealand Wool — Above the latex foam, but underneath the organic cotton cover is a layer of organic wool, ethically sourced from farms in New Zealand and certified by GOTS.
- Mattress Cover – We’ve seen several beds that are equipped with a machine washable cover, like the Yogabed mattress and Novosbed, but unfortunately, that’s not the case with the Botanical Bliss mattress. In the event of a spill from your early morning coffee or late night wine, you’ll have to spot clean the stain with a mild detergent and warm water. Make sure to dab the material, rather than scrub. Also, be careful to not get the mattress too wet or you might risk damaging the wool and foam.
PlushBeds Reviews Sleeper Types
You probably aren’t a mattress nerd like the team members here at The Slumber Yard where we talk about sleeper type on a daily basis, but it’s definitely something you’ll want to take into consideration when you’re looking for a mattress.
Botanical Bliss Mattress Performance
Temperature Regulation
The cool thing about latex foam is that’s it’s made with small holes in the layers. This gives latex foam a leg up on the competition in terms of temperature regulation.
Mattress brands have a habit of claiming their beds sleep cool even when they don’t incorporate any type of cooling technology to actively cool their customers down. On the PlushBeds website, they say the Botanical Bliss mattress sleeps cool because of the temperature-regulating latex foam and the moisture-absorbing organic cotton in the cover.
Although latex and cotton are breathable materials, this mattress doesn’t necessarily sleep cool. We wouldn’t say it sleeps hot either, though — it’s more temperature neutral.
Edge Support
What is edge support on a mattress? Why does it even matter? Edge support is simple –– it’s how strong the edge of the mattress is. This matters for times when you lay down or sit on the edge of the mattress. The last thing you want is sliding off the edge. All-foam mattresses like Tempur-Pedic tend to have weaker wedge support. Mattresses with coils or reinforced edges perform the best.
Unfortunately, we think the Botanical Bliss mattress fell short in the edge support category. We didn’t feel very sturdy when we laid on the edge of the bed.
Motion Isolation
In terms of motion isolation, the Botanical Bliss bed did pretty decent. Latex foam isn’t as good as memory foam at deadening movement, but it still passed our trusted water glass test.
Is the Botanical Bliss a good mattress for couples?
If you share a mattress with somebody, you’ll want to consider a few extra key things the average mattress shopper may not need to think about. First is edge support, and motion isolation is second.
PlushBeds Mattress Review Verdict
To sum up our general thoughts on the PlushBeds mattress reviews, we think it’s one of the more eco-friendly mattresses on the market, up there next to the Birch mattress and Avocado mattress. We appreciate their efforts to be environmentally conscious, and we know a lot of consumers will too. It’s also uncommon to see a mattress that’s so customizable, and offered in so many different sizes and thicknesses.
Overall, there’s a lot of value in this mattress and we’d recommend it to shoppers who will thoroughly enjoy its natural and organic qualities.
That’s all for us folks, and we appreciate you for stopping by The Slumber Yard. Hopefully you found this information helpful. Don’t forget to drop by our mattress deals page to see the best current promotions from different brands so you can save as much money as possible on your next new mattress.
